Two Snowy Owls

In recent winters, snowy owls have been spotted in Colonel Sam Smith Park and even closer to us on Twenty Third Street in Long Branch. These beautiful large birds were the inspiration for these two owls.

Prepping for two snowy owls

We’ve used Russian Birch plywood for this new mosaic project – two snowy owls. The first stage is the initial drawing and cut-out of the shape. Next the backs and sides of the plywood receive 3 coats of paint. We’re going to use both broken crockery and some smalti tiles for these mosaics. For this project we will work directly on the boards and soon will start configuring and applying the tiles one small section at a time.
